👉 Why is World Environment Day celebrated?

June 5 is celebrated every year with a pledge to save the world from global environmental pollution. In accordance with the decision taken at the United Nations International Conference on Human Environment in 1972, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) initiates Environment Day every year in more than 100 countries around the world.

👉 What should we do to protect the environment from severe pollution?

Global warming is increasing day by day due to the release of various harmful gases and the release of large amounts of harmful chemicals. The Earth's atmosphere and climate are changing with that. As a result, sea level is rising. In the near future, some parts of eastern India, including Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka, could be completely submerged. Conscious initiatives are needed today to protect the environment and the world. We need to try to make the world habitable as much as possible. There are so many things we can do.

    For example-

    1) Not to destroy the trees and to discourage the destruction of others and to plant more trees by oneself and to encourage others to plant trees.

    2) Trying to stop harmful / black smoke from the car and make others aware of it.

    3) Stop cutting down hills and make everyone aware of this.

    4) Not to throw garbage everywhere and not to discharge the waste material where it is.

    5) Have the house fridge serviced from time to time. This day inspires many more to take an oath to make people aware of the need to stop or stop doing things that are harmful to the environment / the world.

    👉 History of Environment Day

The Swedish government sent a letter to the United Nations Economic and Social Council on May 20, 1968, expressing deep concern about nature and environmental pollution. In the same year, the issue of environmental protection was included in the agenda of the General Assembly by the United Nations. The United Nations Human Environment Conference was held in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, from 5 to 16 June 1972, with the consent of the member states to discuss in detail the protection of the environment by the United Nations and to find solutions. The conference was recognized as the first international conference on environment. On June 5, 1973, the first day of the conference was declared by the United Nations as 'World Environment Day'. Since 1984, the day has been celebrated throughout the world every year.
