Classified Advertisements: Introduction
In today's time, advertisement is the most effective way to inform people about any item, service, job, or any program. There are many types of advertisements, such as display advertisements, radio/TV advertisements, digital advertisements etc. An important type in these is - classified advertisement.
Classified advertisements are small, brief and less expensive. They are printed in special columns in newspapers, magazines, websites etc. Their purpose is to give more information to the readers in fewer words.
Features of Classified Advertisement
Brevity: This advertisement is written in small and less words.
Accuracy: It has straight, clear and correct information.
Low cost: They cost less than display advertisements.
Information Based: It only gives facts and important details.
Fixed Format: The range of words and the width of the column are already determined.
Concise language: Unnecessary words or sentences are avoided.
Types of classified advertisements
Classified advertisements are given on many subjects, such as -
Situation Vacant/ Wanted: to give or take jobs.
Example: "Accountant requires experience 2 years, salary attractive, contact…"
For selling/ buying (for sale/ purchase): to sell or buy items or property.

Missing/ Lost & Found: Any object, person, animal is lost.

Services: To provide any service.

Matrimonial (marriage): Search for a bride/bride for marriage.

To -let: to rent or take home/shop on rent.
Example: "1 bhk flat to -let, near the metro, fare ₹ 12,000…"
How to Write a Classified Advertisement?
It is important to take care of some things while writing a classified advertisement -
✅ Heading: Put appropriate titles according to the type of advertisement, such as - For Sale, Wanted, Missing etc.
✅ Details:
What to sell/buy or what service to give?
Give the details of the object, service or person.
Do write location.
Write important things like price or salary.
Please give contact details, such as phone number, email etc.
✅ Simple & Brief Language: Say direct talk in fewer words.
✅ Word Limit: Often advertisements have to be written in 30-50 words.

Writing classified advertisements is an art in which more information has to be given in fewer words. This method is the simplest medium to reach more people to at low cost.
