Mother Teresa 

Mother Teresa is also known as “Blessed Teresa of Calcutta”. Her earlier name was “Anjeze Gonxhe Bojaxhiu”. She was born on 26th August, 1910 at the then Yugoslavia (now Republic of Macedonia). She came to India in 1929. 

Mother Teresa was Roman Catholic nun moved to Calcutta’s slum “to serve God among the poorest of the poor”. 

In 1950, she established the Missionaries of Charity to help the poor, helpless, disabled, diseased, refugees and lepers. Today, the Missionary is present in more than 100 countries.

She was awarded the title of “Padma-Shri” in 1962. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Later, in 1980, she received conferred the title of “Bharat-Ratna”, the highest civilian award in India. She is the first citizen of India to win Nobel Peace Prize.

She devoted her life in the service of humanity. She had deep love for Jesus Christ. She adopted a simple living style. She wore a plain white saree with blue border. She also acquired Indian citizenship.

         Who don’t know Mother Teresa, she was a great personality and a humble-hearted human being. At the age of 18, she came to Kolkata with a vision of one woman, one mission and a mission of caring poorest people. She found that a lot of people living in Kolkata were suffering from leprosy. She decided to help them in every way possible. She made them believe that this is not a contagious disease.

          She believes that God is happy when their child is happy and she considered poor people as children of God. Though she didn’t have enough monetary means but she had confidence, trust and energy in plenty. She was a woman with vision not dreams. She was very faithful to God.
