Celia's character in As You Like It

Q. Sketch the character of Celia in Shakespeare’s play, As You Like It

Answer: Celia is the only daughter of Duke Frederick. She is deeply in love with her cousin, Rosalind. She is sympathetic to her. She knows that her father has done a great injustice to Rosalind's father. So whenever Rosalind became depressed, she comforted her. She allows Rosalind to live as she pleases. This is clearly understood when Rosalind fell in love with Orlando. She knows that her father hates Orlando because he is a friend of Rosalind's father. But Celia doesn't consider Orlando an enemy.

Celia's love for Rosalind is unquestionable. Duke Frederick ordered Rosalind to leave the palace. But Celia did not leave her cousin Rosalind alone. She thinks of her safety and her loneliness. She went with Rosalind. Together they set out for the jungles of Arden. But Celia advises Rosalind to go in the guise of a shepherd. Celia thinks they will be safe in the forest. Celia's decision proves that she is extremely prudent and realistic.

Celia is not as emotional as Rosalind. Rosalind meets her lover, Orland in the Forest of Arden. Rosalind did not reveal her identity in front of them. Continue her new game of love. Rosalind was completely engrossed in this joyous game. She also forgot about her father, Duke Senior. Celia reminds Rosalind of her father. Celia does all these things to make the reunion of father and daughter possible.

Celia is completely forgiving. Her nature is sweet and humble. When Oliver admits his guilt, she sincerely sympathizes with her. Oliver did extreme injustice to his brother Orlando. But Orlando risked his life to save Oliver's life from a lioness. Oliver endured the sting of conscience. He turned into a good man. He meets Celia and Rosalind. Her confession touched Celia's heart. Celia forgives the sad man and falls in love with him.

Celia, in fact, has the brilliant qualities of feeling and thinking. Of all the characters in the story, Celia shines brightly and is the bride of our love and respect.
