The rescue operation was a massive undertaking and involved hundreds of people from various agencies. The successful rescue was a testament to the skill and dedication of the rescue teams and was a source of great relief to the families of the trapped workers.

The tunnel collapse occurred on November 12, 2023, when a portion of the under-construction tunnel caved in, trapping the workers inside. The workers were part of a team building a hydroelectric power project in the region. The collapse was caused by heavy rains and a landslide.

A section of the tunnel under construction, connecting Silkyara to Barkot, collapsed as debris fall down a 60-meter stretch on the Silkyara side. The collapse left forty-one workers trapped inside. Promptly following the tunnel collapse on November 12, a rescue operation was initiated, drawing in rescuers, experts, government officials, and media personnel who swiftly rushed to the working site.

The rescue operation was launched immediately after the collapse and involved a team of over 500 people from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Army, the Air Force, and the Border Security Force (BSF). The team worked tirelessly to clear the debris and reach the trapped workers.

After two weeks of intense effort, the rescue team finally reached the trapped workers on October 31. The workers were weak and dehydrated but were otherwise unharmed. They were then transported to a hospital for treatment.
