Rabindranath Tagore or My Favourite Author
My favourite author is Rabindranath Tagore. I developed an interest in reading because of this learned author. He was born on 7 May 1861 in the Jorasanko mansion in Calcutta. His father was Debendranath Tagore and his mother was Sarada Devi. Interestingly, when I was a young child, my mother often narrated stories of Rabindranath Tagore at bedtime. I was fascinated by his stories. Each of his stories has a hidden lesson that helped me look at things from a different perspective. They inspired me to become a better person.
Not just as an author, I also love and respect Rabindranath Tagore as a person. The Bengali writer loved his country, India and worked for its betterment. He raised voice against the British and played an important role in India’s freedom struggle. He tried to bring about a revolution by way of his writing. Though he belonged to a rich family, he was grounded and had a soft corner for the poor class. He was a very kind and gentle human being. He worked for the up-lift of the poor. He inspired people to seek education as it was essential for leading a better life. He may have led a luxurious life but he decided to serve his country and his countrymen. He went through many hardships to further this aim. This great person had taken his breath last on 7th August 1941.
Rabindranath Tagore was not just an author but also a musician, painter, religious reformer, educationist and cultural leader. He was a true patriot. He had great regard for his country and love for his countrymen. Though he had a rather disturbing personal life, it did not dither his spirit to write inspirational books and work for those around him. His work was appreciated worldwide. Many notable authors and poets including the renowned poet W.B Yeats appreciated his work. He also won the Noble Prize for his book, Gitanjali in 1913.
আমার প্রিয় লেখক হলেন রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর। এই বিদ্বান লেখকের জন্যই আমার পড়াশোনার প্রতি আগ্রহ তৈরি হয়েছে। তিনি ১৮৬১ সালের ৭ই মে কলকাতার জোড়াসাঁকোর ঠাকুরবাড়িতে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তাঁর পিতা ছিলেন দেবেন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর এবং মাতা সারদা দেবী। আশ্চর্যের বিষয়, আমি যখন ছোট ছিলাম, তখন আমার মা প্রায়ই ঘুমোনোর আগে রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের গল্প শোনাতেন। তাঁর গল্পগুলো আমাকে ভীষণভাবে আকৃষ্ট করত। তাঁর প্রতিটি গল্পেই একটি গভীর শিক্ষা লুকিয়ে থাকে, যা আমাকে বিষয়গুলোকে ভিন্ন দৃষ্টিভঙ্গিতে দেখতে সাহায্য করেছে। সেগুলো আমাকে একজন ভালো মানুষ হয়ে উঠতে অনুপ্রাণিত করেছে।
শুধু একজন লেখক হিসেবেই নয়, একজন মানুষ হিসেবেও আমি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরকে গভীরভাবে ভালোবাসি ও শ্রদ্ধা করি। এই বাঙালি লেখক তাঁর দেশ ভারতকে ভালোবাসতেন এবং দেশের উন্নতির জন্য কাজ করেছিলেন। তিনি ব্রিটিশ শাসনের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ করেছিলেন এবং ভারতের স্বাধীনতা আন্দোলনে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করেছিলেন। তিনি তাঁর লেখনীর মাধ্যমে এক ধরনের বিপ্লব আনার চেষ্টা করেছিলেন। ধনী পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করলেও তিনি ছিলেন অত্যন্ত বিনয়ী এবং দরিদ্র মানুষের প্রতি তাঁর বিশেষ সহানুভূতি ছিল। তিনি ছিলেন একজন অত্যন্ত দয়ালু ও কোমল হৃদয়ের মানুষ। দরিদ্র মানুষের উন্নতির জন্য তিনি কাজ করেছেন। তিনি মানুষকে শিক্ষালাভের জন্য অনুপ্রাণিত করেছিলেন, কারণ তাঁর মতে উন্নত জীবনযাপনের জন্য শিক্ষা অপরিহার্য। তিনি বিলাসবহুল জীবনযাপন করতে পারতেন, কিন্তু নিজের দেশ ও দেশের মানুষের সেবাকেই তিনি জীবনের লক্ষ্য হিসেবে বেছে নিয়েছিলেন। এই লক্ষ্য পূরণ করতে গিয়ে তাঁকে বহু কষ্ট সহ্য করতে হয়েছে। এই মহান ব্যক্তি ১৯৪১ সালের ৭ই আগস্ট শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন।
রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর শুধু একজন লেখকই নন, তিনি ছিলেন একজন সংগীতজ্ঞ, চিত্রশিল্পী, ধর্মীয় সংস্কারক, শিক্ষাবিদ ও সাংস্কৃতিক নেতা। তিনি ছিলেন একজন প্রকৃত দেশপ্রেমিক। তাঁর দেশের প্রতি ছিল গভীর শ্রদ্ধা এবং দেশের মানুষের প্রতি ছিল অকৃত্রিম ভালোবাসা। ব্যক্তিগত জীবনে নানা দুঃখ-কষ্ট থাকলেও তা কখনোই তাঁর সৃষ্টিশীলতাকে দমিয়ে রাখতে পারেনি। তিনি অনুপ্রেরণামূলক গ্রন্থ রচনা করেছেন এবং সমাজের মানুষের কল্যাণে কাজ করে গেছেন। তাঁর কাজ বিশ্বব্যাপী প্রশংসিত হয়েছে। প্রখ্যাত কবি ডব্লিউ. বি. ইয়েটসসহ বহু খ্যাতনামা লেখক ও কবি তাঁর রচনার প্রশংসা করেছেন। তিনি ১৯১৩ সালে তাঁর গ্রন্থ ‘গীতাঞ্জলি’-এর জন্য নোবেল পুরস্কার লাভ করেন।
