Mesothelioma - lung cancer

What is Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is an invasive and deadly form of cancer. It is a type of cancer that occurs malignantly in a thin layer of tissue that covers most of your internal organs (mesothelium).

Mesothelioma treatment is available, but for many people with mesothelioma, cure is not possible. Physicians divide mesothelioma into different types based on which part of the mesothelium is affected. Mesothelioma often affects the tissues around the lungs (pleura). This type is called pleural mesothelioma. Other rare types of mesothelioma affect abdominal tissues (peritoneal mesothelioma) around the heart and around the testicles.

What are Mesothelioma Symptoms?

Mesothelioma signs and symptoms depend on where the cancer occurs.

Pleural mesothelioma, which affects the tissues surrounding the lungs, causes signs and symptoms that may include:

Chest pain

Painful cough

Weakness of breath

Abnormal swelling of the tissues under the skin in your chest

Unexplained weight loss

Peritoneal mesothelioma, which occurs in abdominal tissue, Symptoms of:

Abdominal pain

Abdominal bloating

Nausea

Unexplained weight loss

Other forms of mesothelioma

Other types of mesothelioma signs and symptoms are unclear, as these forms of the disease are very rare.

Pericardial mesothelioma, which affects the tissues in the heart, can cause signs and symptoms such as shortness of breath and chest pain. Mesothelioma of the tunica vagina, which affects the tissues around the testicles, may first be identified as a swelling or mass on a testicle.

Time to see a doctor

Contact your doctor if you have any signs and symptoms of anxiety. The signs and symptoms of mesothelioma are not specific to this disease and are more likely to be related to other conditions due to the rarity of mesothelioma. If any persistent signs and symptoms seem unusual or annoying, ask your doctor to prescribe them. Tell your doctor if you come in contact with asbestos.

Various reasons after the disease:

Cancer usually begins when there is a continuous mutation in the DNA of a cell. DNA holds instructions that tell a cell what to do. The changes cause the cell to grow and get out of control. Abnormal cells accumulate and form a tumor. It is not clear what causes mesothelioma to form due to early genetic mutations, although researchers have identified factors that may increase the risk. Cancer can be caused by the interaction between many factors, such as inherited circumstances, your environment, your health status, and your lifestyle choices.

Different Risk factors of Asbestos exposure:

Most of the causes of early risk of mesothelioma are thought to be related to mesothelioma asbestos exposure. Asbestos is a mineral that is found naturally in the environment. Asbestos fibers are strong and resistant to heat, which is effective in a wide variety of applications such as insulation, brakes, shingles, flooring and many other products. Dust can form when asbestos breaks down, such as during the mining process or when asbestos insulation is removed. If dust is inhaled or swallowed, the asbestos fibers settle in the lungs or stomach, where they can cause irritation that can lead to mesothelioma. Exactly how this happens is not understood. Mesothelioma can take 20 to 60 years or more to develop after asbestos exposure. Most people with asbestos exposure never develop mesothelioma. This suggests that other factors may be involved in determining whether someone gets mesothelioma. For example, you may be prone to cancer or any other condition may increase your risk.

Among the factors that may increase the risk of mesothelioma are:

Personal history of asbestos exposure:  If you come in direct contact with asbestos fiber at work or at home, your risk of getting mesothelioma is greatly increased.

Living with someone who works with asbestos: People who come in contact with asbestos can keep the fibers on the skin and clothing at home. Long time contact to these stray fibers over many years can put others at risk for mesothelioma at home. People who work with high levels of asbestos can reduce the risk of bringing asbestos fiber into the home by changing showers and clothes before leaving work.

A family history of the mesothelium: If you have parents, siblings or children with mesothelioma, your risk of this disease may increase.

Chest radiation therapy: Having radiation therapy for breast cancer may increase your risk of mesothelioma. As the complication spreads to the pleural mesothelioma chest it puts pressure on the structure of that region. This can lead to complications, such as: Shortness of breath, Chest pain, Difficulty swallowing. Pain is caused by pressure on the nerves and spine, decreased resistance to fluid accumulation in the chest (pleural infusion), which can constrict nearby lungs and complicate shortness of breath

Your exposure to asbestos can reduce your risk of mesothelioma. Find out if you work with asbestos. Most people with mesothelioma come in contact with asbestos fiber in the workplace.

Workers who may be exposed to asbestos fiber include:

Asbestos miners

Electronic

Plumber

Pipefitter

Insulator

Shipyard workers

Destruction workers

Brake mechanics

Elected military personnel

Measures must be followed to prevent mesothelioma:

Ask your home remodeling employer if there is a risk of asbestos in your job. Follow your employer's safety rules Follow all safety precautions in your workplace, such as wearing protective equipment. You may need to take a shower and get out of your work clothes before lunch break or before you go home. Consult to your doctor about other precautions you can take to protect yourself from asbestos exposure. Stay safe around asbestos in your home older houses and buildings may have asbestos. In many cases it is more dangerous to remove asbestos than to leave it intact. Fibers that break down asbestos can be airborne, where they can be breathed. Consult with trained experts to identify asbestos in your home. These specialists can test your home air to determine if asbestos is a risk to your health. Don’t try to remove asbestos from your home - hire a skilled specialist, who can control this mesothelioma disease from its spread and can help the nation.
