Othello’s Character in Shakespeare’s tragedy, Othello

Answer: Othello is a Christian Moore and a General in the Venetian Army. He has a unique and physically strong personality, respected by all the people around him. Despite his advanced status, he was insecure because of his age, his life as a soldier, and his ethnicity. He possesses an open mind and is very clear to others, for which his crony Iago uses his love for his wife, Desdemona, to turn it into a strong and destructive envy.

However, Othello is the main character in the astonishing story of 'Othello'. He has a great personality. He has a high sense of duty towards the state. He is a heroic soldier. He has no fear of war. The state demands his services during the uprising. The newly married General Othello was ready to lead his army at once. The state is well aware that Othello is the best weapon in its crisis. Othello is a man of discipline. This is evident in his dealings with his most loyal friend Cassio. However, Cassio does not do his job well. He blew up the code of conduct as a lieutenant. Othello did not take the time to dismiss him from his post. The likes and dislikes of a personal relationship don't matter to Othello. Othello is morally authentic and perfect.

Othello sometimes makes a point of presenting himself as an outsider, whether he acknowledges his outward appeal or whether he is self-conscious and defensive about his differences from other Venetians. For example, despite his explicit speech in Act – I, Scene - III, he protested,

Although Othello, we know, was never rude in his speech, he allowed his speech to suffer because of the growing pressure put on him by Iago's plots.

Othello is also a romantic person. His has a great love for adventure. He is a born wanderer. He wandered in mountains and deserts, seas and strange lands. He faced many adversities. He fought many bloody battles. All this shows that he is a romantic personality. Without it his nature is romantic. He loves Desdemona from the core of his heart. He was always afraid of losing her. She is the joy of his soul. Enraged, he killed her. But the moment Iago's evil conspiracy is discovered, he kills himself. Othello's self-esteem is so high when it comes to love. So passionate and romantic he is the lover.

Othello is also in a serious mood. He is humble and modest. He is never proud of his skills and strength. He is basically simple. But he is aware of its value. In spite of so many advanced qualities he becomes an easy victim of violence! This proves that he is not flawless. First, he is not a good decision maker. He was easily led by others. He has insights into human character, especially the female soul. Othello is also in a hurry. He may be somewhat aware of his physical inequalities. His darkness may grieve him. Moreover, Othello is just when the voice of instinct is heard. But often he makes mistakes in his thinking. In the final moments of the play, Othello finds his composer back and once again captivates the audience both offset and offstage. The speech that took place before his suicide is a story that can drown almost everyone. The tension between Othello's own desire to be victimized and tortured by foreign culture makes him a tragic figure. Above all, despite his flaws, like the people of Venice we are to lament his tragic end.
