Bank robbery in broad daylight: Rs 33 lakh in cash and fled

East Burdwan, 21 January, 2022: The robbery took place at a state-owned bank in Burdwan city on Friday morning. Bank authorities allege that a group of six miscreants looted Rs 33 lakh.
After the incident, there was widespread unrest in Burdwan. East Burdwan district police has already formed a seat in the robbery case. District Superintendent of Police Kamnashis Sen said Naka checking has been started in different areas.
According to the customers present at the bank during the robbery, a group of six miscreants entered the branch of the state-owned bank shortly after the opening of the bank on Friday morning.
At that time there were 10-15 customers inside the bank. Witnesses said the miscreants' faces were covered in black cloth and they had school bags on their backs. It is alleged that they snatched the mobile phones of the customers by showing firearms as soon as they entered the bank. After that the bank employees were beaten and looted.
The accused escaped after recovering from the robbery in a very short time. He also locks the gate of the bank while leaving. According to an eyewitness, the miscreants were talking among themselves in Hindi.
Upon receiving the news, the police of Burdwan police station went to the spot. Senior Superintendent of Police Kamnashis Sen, Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Singh Roy, IC of Burdwan Police Station Sukhmoy Chakraborty and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
According to the Superintendent of Police, about Rs 3 million was robbed at that branch of the state-owned bank. He also said that a SIT (Special Investigation Team) been formed to investigate the incident. He also said that CCTV camera footage spread in the city is being examined. Bank manager Kundan Kishore said the miscreants fled with Rs 33 lakh.

“Armed miscreants looted Rs 33 lakh in cash and fled”, the bank authorities claimed. The news of the incident caused a great stir in the city. Upon receiving the news, East Burdwan District Superintendent of Police Kamnashish Sen, Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Singh Roy and other police officials of Burdwan Police Station rushed to the spot.
Naka checking started on various roads of the district in search of fugitive miscreants. Work is underway to identify the culprits by looking at the CCTV footage of the scene including the bank.
Bank robbery sparked a stir in Curzon Gate, the heart of Burdwan city, on Friday. A special team has been made to investigate the incident. Note that this is not the first robbery in Burdwan city. Two years ago, on 16 July 2020, a robbery took place at a gold lending company in the BC Road area of Burdwan. This time an adventurous robbery had caused at a city-owned bank branch in the city.
Deepa Kumar, the wife of an employee of this bank, witnessed the incident on that day. She said that she had come to the bank to pay her sick husband at around 10.45 am. Upon entering the bank, a group of Hindi-speaking youths asked her and her husband to sit down. After that the youths took their mobile phones. He said that there were 5-6 youths in the group.
It is learned that all the miscreants who came to rob the bank on that day had firearms in their hands. They had their faces covered and school bags on their backs. Leaving everyone seated, the robbers asked for a key from a bank official. The miscreants left the bank by 10:30 am after carrying out the operation before anyone understood anything. Before leaving, the miscreants hung the lock from outside the main gate of the bank.
Anita Sarkar, a customer inside the bank at the time of the robbery, Sushma Mallikara said that a gang of 6 people broke into the bank as soon as it started working. In all, nearly 10-15 customers were there inside the bank. The miscreants snatched the mobile phones of all the customers, beat the bank workers and started looting.
Meanwhile, the bank's alarm went off soon after the money was looted. Senior officials of local police and district police came to the spot. They talked to the bank officials as well as the customers inside the bank. Kundan Kishore, manager of the bank, said, "After beating two employees of the bank, the miscreants looted Rs 33 lakh and fled." An employee of the bank said, 'The miscreants snatched the key of the bank vault by showing firearms. The miscreants took money out of the vault and packed it in a bag and walked out of the bank. The miscreants fled with the bank's 'hard disk'.
Police have started investigation into the bank robbery. Burdwan District Superintendent of Police Kamnashish Sen said the investigation has been started by forming a seat. Naka checking is being carried out in different areas to reach the miscreants. CCTV footage is being scrutinized. It is being investigated whether the miscreants were local or came from outside.
