    1. Read the following passage carefully and do as directed:

    The conductor came to the door. Some passengers claim, "Return our fares - you're hired to take our responsibility - you can't leave us here all night!" "No fare," said the conductor. Two or three passengers got off at night and disappeared. The contractor turned to the sidewalk, talking to the driver. The last bus on the road, another bus left. The passenger seemed indifferent to the stop screaming. A policeman walked and looked at the door. Passengers protested and appealed. "Well, he maintains his rules, you know," he usually said. Then he stood on the road a few yards away. He had two more constable joined with him.

    Yet the little dog shone in the light and the conductor turned around like a captain during a victory. The voice of a female passenger rose above the gale, threatening the bus conductor. But he was as cold as the sidewalk. She expressed his displeasure towards the three policemen who were watching the drama while standing in the street. Then she called his partner back and disappeared. The bus was getting empty.

    "I'll go to the top," said the young woman at the end. "You will have pneumonia," the man said.

    As she disappeared from the stairs, the conductor returned and pulled the bell. The bus continues. He was victorious when his behavior was criticized by the passengers.

    2. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

    Olympia, the site of the Olympic Games in ancient Greece, is located in a quiet, beautiful valley. Old ruins are shaded by evergreen oak, pine and poplar, as well as olive groves. Olympia was never a city but a sacred land occupied by temples. At the center was the enclosure known as Atlis, which was dedicated to Zeus, the king of the gods. It was a four-year festival and games held in honor of Zeus.

    Olympia's reputation largely depends on the Olympic Games. They were a great national festival of the whole Greek nation. The Athenians, Spartans, Syracuse and other groups forgot their narrow identities. He considers the Olympic victory to be the highest honor.
