5. Write a summary of the following passage within 100 words.

Egyptian kings are called Pharaohs. Tutankhamen was an Egyptian king who ruled between 1332 -1323 BC. Tutankhamen was very young when he became the king. He was only ten years old when he ascended the throne. He was the son of Akhenaten who was also a Pharaoh. As the king, Tutankhamen undertook many building projects. These building projects were centered around Thebes and Karnak. Tutankhamen built many temples and monuments. At that time many temples were in ruins. Tutankhamen ordered them to be rebuilt. Tutankhamen ordered them to be rebuilt. Tutankhamen had various physical disabilities. He suffered from ill health for a long period in his life. Tutankhamen required the support of a cane to walk because of his physical disabilities. 

            In ancient Egypt, the body of a Pharaoh was preserved after his death. This preserved body was known as mummy. The preserved body of Tutankhamen was discovered by Howard Carter, an Englishman. He discovered Tutankhamen’s tomb in 1922. The tomb was nearly intact when it was discovered. The discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb attracted wide interest all over the world. The discovery sparked an interest in ancient Egypt.

Summary: Tutankhamen, the son of the Pharaoh, Akhenaten, ruled Egypt between 1332 – 1323 BC. He was only ten when he became the king. He undertook many building projects around Thebes and Karnak, built many temples and monuments and rebuilt some temples. He suffered long in his life from various physical disabilities for which he needed the help of a cane to walk about. In ancient Egypt, the preservation of a corpse was called mummy. Howard Carter, an Englishman, discovered Tutankhamen’s mummy in 1922 and created a global interest in ancient Egypt.     

 

6. Write a newspaper report (within 100 words) on the incident of burglary in a flat in Kolkata using the following points.

Kolkata March 25: Some burglars broke into a flat in Salt Lake Sector 1 yesterday and made off with ornaments and cash worth rupees 3 Lakhs. The police said that on 24th March Mr Paban Basu complaint that on Thursday evening, on his return from office, he found his flat ransacked and cleared out of valuables.  According to him the incident took place between 10 a.m. and afternoon. He had left for his office around 10 a.m. His wife who is a teacher of a High School also had set out for her school at 10:00 a.m. After the departure the burglars broke into the main door. They broke open the locker of the almirah and took away gold ornaments worth rupees 2 lakhs and hard cash of Rs 80000. Police have started an enquiry but no one has been arrested so far.
